PVAMU Mourns the Loss of Student Doris Blanchard

The PVAMU community is mourning the loss of doctoral student Doris Blanchard, who passed away on Sunday, July 22.

The 25 year-old Lake Charles, La. native was pursuing a doctoral degree in Juvenile Justice. Blanchard was a passionate about her work, focusing her energy on completing coursework for her doctoral degree and conducting research for her dissertation, “An ‘Aura’ of Guilt: The Effects of Migraine Headaches on Juvenile Offense Level.”

“We are deeply saddened to hear of Doris’ untimely passing. She was a dedicated student and truly believed in the importance of education,” said PVAMU President George C. Wright. “The University extends our condolences to her family and friends during this difficult time.”

Visitation will be held 8 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. Friday, July 27 at the Combre Memorial Funeral Home, 1200 Mill Street, Lake Charles, La. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 2031 Opelousas Street, Lake Charles, La. Interment will follow in the Combre Memorial Cemetery.

The Student Counseling Center is prepared to offer grievance counseling and assistance to the University students, faculty and staff. Those interested should call (936) 261-3564. Students can also contact The Johnson-Phillip All Faiths Chapel at (936) 261-3590 to seek counseling and support.
