
PVAMU alumna Florence Garvey has been selected as Best Actress in the Houston Theater Awards by the Houston Press.
The Houston native studied theater in the Marvin D. and June Samuel Brailsford College of Arts and Sciences. After a stint in New York, Garvey returned to her hometown and has been a force in the Houston theater scene.
The blog credited her performance as Hester in the Back Porch Players’ production of “In the Blood” by Suzan-Lori Parks. Garvey was also featured as one of the Houston Press’ 100 Creatives 2012. Read more about Garvey’s award-winning performance here.
