Prairie View A&M University Cheerleaders

Purpose and Philosophy

The Prairie View A&M University Cheerleaders are a group of dynamic students whose passion and desire for university athletics is matched only by the enthusiasm of their campus spirit.

The Cheerleader and Mascot programs are designed to instill leadership skills, respect and sportsmanship. Our purpose is to promote constructive school spirit, uphold rules of good sportsmanship, give moral support to teams of all sports and promote unity among the student body in all activities.

Performances

Performances range from halftime shows during the basketball season, spirit rallies, Homecoming Parade, Panther Camp (New Student Orientation), Spring Fest events, and a host of other events focused on developing school spirit, pride and excitement.

To schedule the Cheerleaders or the Mascots at your event or activites, please contact Coach Jim Price for availability. (see contact information below)

Tryouts

Tryouts occur at the end of each academic year for the next semester.  Squad members are selected by a panel of judges that score each candidate on various performance categories (see Requirements for details). Cheerleaders must be able to perform collegiate level stunts, tumbles, and tumbling passes.

The PVAMU Cheerleaders are looking for female and male students who are willing to dedicate a full year of energy and excitement in support of the aforementioned University events.  We expect positive attitudes and energetic personalities with an open mind to new styles and techniques.

All Cheerleading squad members must maintain a 2.7 Grade Point Average (GPA) throughout the year.
