Message from the Department Head

Greetings from the Hill!  Civil Engineers have one of the world’s most important jobs; they build our quality of life. They are problem-solvers, meeting the challenges of pollution, traffic congestion, drinking water and energy needs as well as urban redevelopment and community planning. With the goal of providing the highest quality education and training for qualified students through its Accreditation Board for Engineering & Technology (ABET) accredited curriculum, Prairie View A&M University’s Civil & Environmental Engineering Department is well poised to educate its students academically in four interrelated branches namely, Environmental, Structural, Transportation, and Water Resources so that they can make a significant contribution to the society in which they live and work.

In an effort to keep pace with the state-of-the-practice in academia as well as expand the breath and depth of the Civil Engineering profession for our customers, we offer a very robust curriculum consisting of 132 hours leading to a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering. The department also offers a minor in civil engineering and a minor in environmental engineering as a concentration at the undergraduate level. At the graduate level, a Master of Engineering degree program offers options in Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering.

Dr. Judy A. Perkins
Professor and Department Head
