Memorandum

TO: All Graduate Students
FROM: Office of Student Financial Aid
DATE:  June 26, 2007
RE:  1. Graduate Provisional Status and Student Loan Eligibility
  2. New Loan Process

The purpose of this memorandum is to inform you of recent changes in the financial aid process that may affect your fall financial aid eligibility.

Graduate Provisional Status and Student Loan Eligibility

A recent review of your graduate academic records shows that you are currently admitted as a Graduate Provisional Student.  Due to federal regulations, students classified as “Graduate Provisional” are not eligible for the $18,500.00; instead they are only entitled to $10,500.00.

Students that:

  1. completed one term or more;
  2. during the term attended, received a student loan; and,
  3. have not taken the GRE/GMAT;

MAY NOT be eligible for financial aid for the fall term.  It is imperative that you take the GRE/GMAT as soon as possible to ensure that your aid is available for the fall term. Students that have already taken the GRE/GMAT are encouraged to contact the Graduate School immediately to have their status updated from Graduate Provisional (GP) to Graduate Regular (GR).

Students that do not ensure that they have met the requirements to be classified as “Graduate Regular” may have their aid reduced or terminated.  So it is imperative that you make sure that your status is updated with the Graduate School and/or take the GRE/GMAT immediately!

New Loan Process

The Financial Aid Office has adopted a new student loan process.  Those, students that received a student loan award and refund prior to spring 2007 are encouraged to e-sign a new promissory note.  Otherwise, your loan funds will not arrive on time to pay your outstanding fees and your classes will be dropped.  In order to begin the process:  (1) Go to www.pvamu.edu/faid, (2) Click on “Apply for a Loan,” (3) Select a lender, (4) Click on the “Apply” Button (5) Complete and e-sign the promissory note.
