Once the department has assessed that there is a need for a student worker, the vacancy will have to be advertised. The department must take the following steps to have their vacancy advertised:
After being reviewed, the job will then be posted on the Student Employment website. Please allow 2-3 days after submission for the job to be actively listed on the website.
The position will be posted for fifteen business days from the date the position was posted.
Closing/Re-advertising Job Vacancies
If the position is filled prior to the closing date, it is the responsibility of the department to send an email to notify the Student Employment Office of the status of the position. Email:seo@pvamu.edu
If an extension is needed the department must notify the Student Employment Office (seo@pvamu.edu) that they are requesting an extension. (Please note: The extension will be granted for an additional 15 business days. An extension can only be extended twice.
Hiring a Student Worker
To hire a "New Hire" student to work within your department, the supervisor must take the following steps:
Conduct an interview with the student. Student must present a completed Student Employment Application and a copy of their resume along with their proof of being awarded work study funds if they are on financial aid.
If you are satisfied with the student as a suitable candidate for hire, please have the student complete a New Hire Packet.
The supervisor must complete the Job Offer Letter and EWR. The Job Offer Letter can temporarily be retrieved in the Student Employment Office. New-Hires will also be given the form at Student Employment Orientation.
The complete packet including the Confidential Release Form must then be turned into the Student Employment Office.
Ensure that the student registers for an Orientation Session.
Once the student has completed his/her orientation and done the online training requirements, he/she will be cleared to commence working.
The department will be notified via email that the student is now eligible to commence working once the Criminal Background Check has been completed.
To hire a "Re-Hire" student to work within your department, the supervisor must take the following steps:
If the student worked the previous semester within the department then the department must have the student complete a Rehire Packet.
Complete the EWR.
Ensure that the student has completed his/her Work Schedule and that both the student and the supervisor sign off on the work Schedule.
Have student return the Re-Hire packet to the Student Employment Office.
Once the packet has been received and reviewed, the Student Employment Office will notify you the supervisor via email, that the student is eligible to begin working once the Criminal Background Check has been completed.
