Diaz Named SWAC Offensive Player of the Week

The Prairie View A&M University women’s soccer team was honored to learn that Monica Diaz was named the SWAC Offensive Player of the Week.

This came after Diaz scored her first goal of the season while lifting her Lady Panthers team to a 1-0 win over North Texas last week. Playing the full 90 minutes the 5-9 junior Mid-Fielder from Houston, Texas, hit the game-winning goal on her only shot of the match.

"She had a great game and I am very impressed with her performance, she was at the right place at the right time,” noted head coach Abe Garcia. "The morale of the team is high coming off a big win; we will use it to our advantage throughout the rest of the season."

This brings the Lady Panthers to a 1-4 record leading up to a home game against Texas College on Monday, Sept. 21, 2009 at 5 p.m.
