Prairie View-Prairie View A&M women’s soccer team came into the game on Monday, Sept. 21, 2009 against Texas College with a 1-4 overall record. The Lady Panthers have played relatively well throughout the season losing close games.
After defeating North Texas 1-0, the Lady Panthers have played with confidence and were prepared for a tuff game against Texas College. Prairie View dominated the entire game, finishing with a total of 31 shots to six total shots for Texas College.
“I’m pleased with our performance but we have a lot of work to do to,” said second year head coach Abe Garcia.
The Ladies got to a quick start against Texas College with a goal by Yosselyn Aguilar in the eleventh minute of the match. Kesha Brown provided a beautiful through ball that slipped past the Texas College defense that Aguilar finished with a great one touch shot in the back of the net.
Going into the second half the Lady Panthers led 1-0, then JD Devany put a ball into play for Mayra Castillo and she finished it with a shot past the Texas College goalkeeper to go up 2-0.
Yosselyn Aguilar came back into the game after suffering from breathing problems and scored her third goal of the season at the seventy minute mark that was assisted by Megan Vlam. The Lady Panthers finished the game with the final score of 3-0.
“We came out a bit slow in the first half but eventually put it all together,” noted head coach Abe Garcia. “We were able to put a lot of pressure on the defensive back line of Texas College throughout the whole game which allowed us to score three goals.”
With this win the Lady Panthers move to 2-4 overall recorded and are set to take on Texas State University on Friday, Sept. 25, 2009 at 7pm.
