Women’s Cross Country Runner Honored with Runner of the Week

Guadalupe Bustamente was honored with SWAC cross country runner of the week after competing in the University of Incarnate Word Cross Country Invitational last weekend in San Antonio, Texas.

Guadalupe has been doing quite well in her freshman year at Prairie View A&M University leading her team to the finish line in multiple contests. Being a twin sister to Leticia Bustamente who is also progressing rapidly, Prairie View cross country team is looking to make their mark in the SWAC conference this season.

“In the past meet and practices Guadalupe has been outstanding, she is the epitome of a student athlete,” said head coach Angela Williams. “It is a pleasure to have her in our program and I strongly feel she has the ability to compete on the national level.”

At the University of Incarnate Word Cross Country Invitational Guadalupe registered a time of 22:53.7, placing 27th out of 69 runners in the 5k race. With her efforts the Lady Panthers placed 6th overall out of 10 teams at the meet.

As the Lady Panthers cross country team continue their season they will be heading to Huntsville, Texas to compete in the Sam Houston Invite on October 17, 2009.
