Houston-Led by Junior outside Hitter Cheri Lindsay with 17 kills, the Prairie View A&M University Lady Panthers won a division battle against Texas Southern University.

Behind thunderous kills by Cheri Lindsay and senior middle blocker Shaun Williams who combined for 27 kills, the Lady Panthers won in 4 sets (25-21, 25-17, 22-25, 25-19). Prairie View jumped out to an early start in the first set and didn’t look back as they rallied off the Lady Tigers errors.

In the second set Prairie View came out stronger and more determined as they put the Lady Tigers on their toes. Freshman newcomer of the week Sapphire Reid led the Lady Panthers in the second set totaling 8 kills and 15 digs in the contest. Jasmine Hale also contributed big with a team high of 16 digs.

In the third set the Lady Panthers couldn’t hold off the spirited effort that the Lady Tigers came out with. Ashlee Cooper of Texas Southern led the team with 10 kills and 5 digs. The Lady Panthers fought back at the end of the set but couldn’t overcome the deafest.

The fourth and final set was all Prairie View never falling behind at all. The Lady Panthers showed resilience as they finished the set with a monstrous kill from Sapphire Reid showing their long time foe their dominance in the SWAC. Breanna McNeil contributed stepping in for Erin Fondel with a game high 33 assist.

“I was so proud of Breanna McNeil stepping in for setter Erin Fondel she really played well,” said Head Coach Alicia Pete. "With the SWAC tournament coming up I am hoping the ladies can continue to play well as I am hoping to earn the number two seed."

The Lady Panthers continue their road trip as they take on Arkansas Pine Bluff on November 6, 2009.
