Prairie View A&M soccer goalie Jessica Garcia was honored with SWAC Goalkeeper of the Week for her outstanding play last week.
The 5' 9" freshman from Houston recorded 10 saves in a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Jackson State and recorded 5 more in the next match against Southern, providing the team's only goal courtesy of a penalty kick that guided the Lady Panthers over the Lady Jaguars 1-0.
"It's great to hear she has finally been recognized with this honor," said head coach Abe Garcia. "She's been an outstanding goalkeeper and a great leader all year long.”
For the season Garcia, who attended Houston Lamar High School, has averaged to allow 2.78 goals per outing and averages 6 saves per game throughout the season. In her senior season she can really say she has provided the spark that has changed the soccer program around drastically.
