The University Scholars Program (USP) responds to the national need for more graduate and professional level researchers, practitioners, and faculty in all fields.USP students, specifically selected for their outstanding academic achievement, will be prepared to pursue study at highly competitive academic institutions and to assume leadership roles in their professions and in society-at-large. To this end, the college combines intensive training in the student's area of specialization with an innovative honors curriculum in the liberal arts.
Freshman applicants for admission to the University Scholars Program must meet the following requirements:
Upperclassmen whose cumulative grade point average is at least 3.50 and whose candidacy for admission into the college is supported by recommendations from three college teachers, including the major department head, will be considered for admission.
Students transferring from other universities or colleges who wish to participate in the University Scholars Program should write a letter of application to the Chair Admissions and Academic Standards Committee. They should also present transcripts of their previous college work and any SAT, ACT, and Advanced Placement Scores.
Continuation Requirements
Honor students are required to enroll for a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester.
The requirement for remaining in good academic standing as a University Scholars Program is as follows: Maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.50.
