    A. Jan Taylor, a native of Houston and a graduate of the Houston High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, received the Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Houston, and the Master of Arts degree from Prairie View A&M University.  She is currently pursuing the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Choral Conducting at the University of Houston.

    Mrs. Taylor is the former director of the Singing Boys of Houston Preparatory Choir and is founding director of Intermezzo, a professional vocal ensemble. She has served as adjudicator and choral clinician for numerous choral festivals, and as a church choir director and accompanist. She has worked as chorus master, coach/accompanist and singer with the Houston Ebony Opera Guild, which was founded by former PVAMU Department of Music Head, the late Dr. Robert A. Henry.  Mrs. Taylor served as Assistant Conductor of the Houston Symphony Chorus during from 2003 until 2006.

    Under Mrs. Taylor’s direction, the University Concert Chorale has performed to critical acclaim throughout the United States and abroad. In September, 2002, Mrs. Taylor along with the Chorale traveled to Poland to participate in the International Festival Wratislavia Cantans, a prestigious music festival for choirs and orchestras. Her appointment as Director of Choral Activities at Prairie View A&M University in 1996 follows a successful teaching career as piano instructor and choral director in the Houston Independent School District.
