NROTC AT PVAMU

Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) Unit, Prairie View A&M University offers men  and women the opportunity to earn a commission as an officer in the U.S. Navy or U.S. Marine Corps. Nationally, the NROTC Program is the largest single source of Navy and Marine Corps officers.  It fills a vital role in providing mature men women for leadership and management positions in the increasingly technical Naval Services. Upon graduation and completion of NROTC Program requirements, graduates are commissioned as Ensigns in the United States Naval Reserve or Second Lieutenants in the United States Marine Corps Reserve.

The NROTC Unit at Prairie View was established in 1968 as the first hosted at a historically Black college or university. Since then, more than 287 men and women have earned commissions via Prairie View’s unit.

The unit’s mission is: To develop enrolled students morally, mentally and physically and to imbue them with the highest ideals of duty, honor and loyalty in order to commission graduates as naval officers who possess a basic professional background, are motivated toward careers in the naval service, and have potential for future development in mind and character to assume the highest responsibilities of command, citizenship and government.
