Dr. KilpatrickJanuary 11, 2010

Dear Fellow Alumni:

As we enter a new year and the beginning of a new decade, we are grateful for your friendship. The various means that you have made a contribution, provided service, and embraced the University is appreciated. Our connection and partnership enables us to remain an institution of unique purpose and a relevant institution of higher education.

Thank you for opening your homes and for engaging a variety of venues during 2009 in order to learn about the progress of the university. You were most gracious in welcoming staff representatives to your respective cities. We value your generosity and participation. Dr. George C. Wright, President, had an opportunity to speak with alumni in Beaumont, Ft. Worth, San Antonio, Detroit, St. Louis, Washington, D.C., and with the Houston Nurses Alumni Chapter. A schedule of visits for 2010 will be forthcoming.

We acknowledge the superb address delivered by Nathelyne A. Kennedy during the December graduation exercises. Nathelyne is President and CEO of Kennedy & Associates, a civil engineering firm. Respected by her peers and colleagues, Kennedy was the first female engineering graduate (1959) of Prairie View.

During the Spring term, we hope that you will SAVE-the-DATE for a number of exciting events. First, we continue to offer congratulations to our fabulous football team for recently winning the conference title in the SWAC Championship game. A celebration honoring the team will take place on January 19th at 1:00 o’clock p.m., Blackshear Stadium.

For information on the 2010 Career Fair, and Pantherland Day, visit our website at www.pvamu.edu .

At this time, we also wish to acknowledge our golden anniversary alumni class for 2010, the class of 1960. This class will receive special recognition during commencement on May 15th. Mr. Calvin Bluiett serves as class President. All the best to this esteemed class of graduates. The 50th year classes have been instrumental in establishing scholarship endowments at the institution thereby increasing the endowment base.

Also, you will pleased to know that our young alums continue to compete and achieve in the workplace. Please read the biographical sketches posted on the Alumni website (www.pvamu.edu) for London, Runnels, Marquez, D. Williams and L. Williams.

Always know that our doors are open when you have an opportunity to visit PVAMU. Have a great year!

Sincerely,

Hortense Kilpatrick, Ph.D., Director
