Summer Financial Aid at PVAMU
Types of Assistance
By having previously filed the 2008-2009 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and registering for at least six (6) hours, you will be considered for financial aid for the summer term. By printing, completing, and submitting the Request for Summer 2009 Parent Loan Form, parents can be considered for PLUS Loan eligibility.
During the summer, the Prairie View A&M University Summer Covenant and a limited number departmental scholarships are available.
How Eligibility is Determined?
Summer 2009 financial aid eligibility is determined using the results of the 2008-2009 FAFSA, as well as, your summer enrollment plans. If your received federal aid at PVAMU for the fall 2008 and/or the spring 2009 semester(s), you would already have filed the 2008-2009 FAFSA. If you are unsure about whether you filed the 2008-2009 FAFSA, contact your financial aid counseling team.
- Undergraduate students must be enrolled in at least six (6) hours for the summer term to be considered for the William D. Ford Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Student Loans and/or Parent PLUS Loans; graduate students must be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) hours to be considered. Students enrolled in less than six hours, may be eligible for the Federal Pell Grant. Eligibility is based on financial need and cost of attendance.
- Each student is required to meet Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress standards, both at the time the eligibility is determined and at the time the aid is scheduled to be disbursed. Academic performance in summer can impact eligibility for financial assistance in the fall.
- When determining your award(s), federal annual award limits must be taken into consideration.
Summer 2009 Application/Award Process
- Register for six hours;
- We will send you an email (to your pvamu.edu email address) after May 20, 2009, to notify you that your eligibility is listed on-line; and,
- If you change your planned enrollment, you must notify your financial aid counseling team.
Federal Pell Grant Recipients
Generally, students who were eligible for Federal Pell Grant during the fall/spring, and who enrolled in 12 or more hours each during the fall 2008 and spring 2009 semesters, will have exhausted their Pell eligibility for the academic year. Students who apply for summer aid and have remaining Pell eligibility will see the Federal Pell Grant already accepted when they review their summer awards on Panther Tracks
Undergraduate Tuition Scholarship Recipients
With the exception of Departmental Scholarships and the PVAMU Summer Covenant, there are no undergraduate tuition scholarships during the summer term.
