PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (Feb. 19, 2025) – As part of Lab Safety Awareness Week (Feb. 10–14), Prairie View A&M University’s Risk Management & Safety (RMS) Department hosted a hands-on Spill Response Training Course. This initiative aimed to reinforce best practices in lab safety and maintain a secure, compliant laboratory environment.

Lab Safety

Proper spill response is more than a regulatory requirement—it is essential for preventing accidents, protecting students, faculty, and staff, and minimizing environmental hazards. Through this interactive session, participants gained real-world experience in safely and effectively handling hazardous situations.

Attendees from departments across campus engaged in practical exercises, including donning and doffing personal protective equipment (PPE), executing decontamination procedures, and cleaning up simulated spills. This immersive training built upon previous classroom-based instruction on chemical safety, equipping lab personnel with the skills necessary to respond swiftly and confidently to potential hazards.

Lab Safety

By investing in hands-on safety training, PVAMU continues to foster a culture of preparedness and responsibility, ensuring that laboratories remain safe spaces for research and learning.
