This year has been a great challenge for many, with the coronavirus pandemic threatening the lives of those in our community and around the world. With an abundance of care and planning, our university has taken great steps to prepare for the return of our students for the fall semester. Their continued health and safety are our top priority as we move forward through these difficult times.
Our homecoming activities are a great tradition that brings together thousands of alumni, students, and friends to our campus for a time of exuberant celebration and camaraderie. We have sought input from our Prairie View A&M University community and our local health officials. In addition, I have involved the National Alumni Association in a discussion of how to approach homecoming in this challenging environment. We are all in agreement that we must cancel an in-person 2020 homecoming celebration. We know that this may be disappointing for some, but when we consider the health and safety of our students and extended communities, we believe it is the right decision.
We are hopeful that in 2021 we have the opportunity to renew our rich homecoming tradition and celebrate our common bond and support for Prairie View A&M University.
