On October 7, students from the Houston Independent School District were introduced to “intentional programming” strategies, that assist them in thriving socially, academically, and emotionally. Through the Hope Initiative, 4-H Dream Big College and Career Readiness program, and PVAMU Wellness in Houston the program leaders provided three Naviance assessments that tested the students on their learning styles, personalities, and strengths in the classroom. The students were also encouraged to detail how the information helped them and how they’ll use it in their personal lives. Rukeia Draw-Hood, Ph.D., and Jacquelyn White, Ph.D., provided information regarding the various programs offered within the initiative and Wellness in Houston.

The event is aimed at students who have been placed in alternative schools or may have a criminal background. The program allows the team to provide self-assessments for students to be able to see where they can grow academically and emotionally when they are reintegrated into their schools.
