If needed, a tax filer can request a transcript, free of charge, of their tax return from the IRS in one of two ways. To avoid delays in requesting an IRS Tax Return Transcript, we strongly recommend and advise you to transfer your tax data into your FAFSA using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool.

IRS Tax Return Transcripts requested by telephone cannot be sent directly to a third party by the IRS.
Paper Request
You may also request any transcript type by faxing/mailing Form 4506-T, Request for Transcript of Tax Return as instructed on the form.
