Apply for Admissions
In order to be awarded financial aid, students must be admitted to the University. Complete an application for admission at applytexas.org. For more information about the admissions application and deadlines, please visit the Office of Admissions.
Submit Your FAFSA Application
All students who wish to be considered for need-based federal aid and institutional grant assistance must complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The easiest way to complete the FAFSA is to apply online. You must complete and submit the FAFSA, along with any requested documentation, by the state of Texas priority deadline each year to receive the maximum consideration for limited financial aid resources. Prairie View A&M University’s Federal School Code is 003630.
The 2025-26 FAFSA form is available! The state of Texas priority deadline is Feb. 15, 2025, but we encourage you to complete the FAFSA as soon as possible to maximize your aid eligibility.
Check Your Student Email
If you provided an email address, you will receive an email notification with instructions for viewing and printing your FSS. Check the FSS for accuracy, and make sure that Prairie View A&M University is listed as a recipient of your information. If Prairie View A&M University is listed as a recipient of your data that information should be transmitted electronically to the institution for review.
Once your FAFSA is received and you are admitted, the Office of Student Financial Services will only begin to communicate with you to your student email address, so please make sure you are checking that email daily!
Submit Request Documentation
While processing your FAFSA, additional application requirements may be requested to complete your file. You will be notified via student email if your file is incomplete, but it is also recommended that you monitor your status in Panthertracks.
Submit any other requested documentation right away. You may be requested to submit copies of tax information or other documentation to complete your financial aid application. Respond promptly to these requests to assure timely processing of your application.
Review Financial Aid Offer Letter
All students will receive a Financial Aid Offer Letter from the Office of Student Financial Services stating the financial aid granted to them by the university.
If you have applied for financial aid and have submitted all verification and/or additional information as requested, you should expect to receive an aid notification email within 2 weeks of fulfilling these requirements.
2025 -2026 Timeline
- Now: The 2025-26 FAFSA is open for students and families to submit at Federal Student Aid using Prairie View A&M’s School Code, 003630. FAFSA hints can also be found at Federal Student Aid.
- Mid – December: PVAMU will begin receiving individual student FAFSA data.
- Late January/Early February: PVAMU anticipates releasing financial aid notifications to all students. Notifications will also be sent to the student email.
As you review your financial aid offer letter and PVAMU’s Terms and Conditions, keep in mind that grants and scholarships are types of gift aid that do not need to be repaid. Educational Loans and Federal Work-Study (FWS) are types of self-help financial aid. Loans must be repaid. FWS requires work/labor.
Financial Aid Disbursement
When we disburse your financial aid, we move your financial aid from pending (authorized) status to your balance due.
- Loans and Scholarships will begin disbursing the week before the start of classes as long as you are meeting the enrollment requirements. If you are enrolled in a session that starts later in the semester (2nd 8-weeks), your aid will not disburse until all of your sessions starts.
Enrollment and Disbursement Requirements
- Loans: The amount of Federal Direct Loans you receive is based on your yearly eligibility and requires at least six hours of enrollment for the semester to be eligible to receive any amount. A completed Entrance Counseling and a signed Master Promissory Note (MPN) with studentaid.gov is required before a federal direct loan is disbursed. State loans may require you complete a MPN, and accept terms with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board prior to disbursement. Private/alternative loan disbursements will occur when the funds are received from your lender.
- Grants: In order to receive grants, you must meet all enrollment requirements:
Type of Grant | Enrollment Requirements |
Federal Pell Grant Program |
Federal Pell Grant Program funds initially offered to you are based on an assumed full-time (12 hours) enrollment. The amount you will actually receive is based on the number of hours you are enrolled in, as of the 12th day of class; the information you provided on the FAFSA, and your lifetime limits already utilized. Your Federal Pell Grant Program funds will be prorated to reflect your actual enrolled hours after the 12th class day of each term. |
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant Program (FSEOG) |
FSEOG funds initially offered to you are based on at least half-time (six hours) enrollment. |
*Texas Public Education Grant | At least nine credit hours |
*TEXAS Grant | At least nine credit hours |
*Undergraduate/Graduate Institutional Grants |
At least 6 credit hours for undergraduate students. All graduate students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours. |
