Students are ready to apply for acceptance to the College of Nursing after reviewing the PVAMU Catalog, College of Nursing Requirements for Generic BSN, LVN-BSN, and online RN-BSN Programs, and the centralized application process, NursingCAS:

All prerequisite courses must be completed to enroll in nursing courses if accepted.

  1. Applicants must complete 60 prerequisite transferrable college-level hours (45 hours must have been completed before APPLYING for admissions consideration) or an Associate Degree in Nursing (RN-BSN). ALL prerequisite courses must be completed to enroll in nursing courses, if accepted. Students must complete any remaining courses by the end of the spring semester if applying for fall and by the end of the fall semester if applying for spring. Note: Summer courses cannot be taken for fall admission; Winter semester-related courses cannot be taken for spring admission.
  2. All lower division (core and support courses) classified as pre-nursing and natural science courses may not be repeated more than once to achieve a passing grade of “C.” Also, no more than two pre-nursing lower-division courses may be repeated.
  3. Meet the required 3.0 Cumulative GPA and Support Area GPA on a 4.0 scale (2.75 for RN-BSN).
  4. Transfer students or students that are not currently enrolled must submit the Texas Common Application for admission to Prairie View A&M University at https://www.applytexas.org/ and pay the fee. Note: An Admission Letter from the University does not constitute Acceptance into the College of Nursing.
  5. Request official transcripts from ALL institutions attended (electronic copy(s) sent to PVAMU Admissions and NursingCAS.
  6. Pass the pre-nursing entrance examination, Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS), earning a minimum score of Math 74%, Reading 75%, English and Language Usage 64 %, and Science 55% (No exam required for RN-BSN applicants). Submit scores to NursingCAS. To learn more about the exam: TEAS.
  7. Submit two references (current or former college instructor and personal/agency detailing your community service) as directed in NursingCAS. LVN-BSN and RN-BSN Applicants must submit proof of a current Texas Nursing License.
  8. To complete your PVAMU Nursing application, subscribe to NursingCAS, pay the $60.00 application fee, and input your courses as categorized in Degree Works and complete all other requested information. The CON Enrollment Management Committee will only review completed applications from NursingCAS.org for admissions.
  9. REMINDER: Applicants must complete the Health Requirements and Medical History by July 1 (fall admission) and December 1 (Spring admission) and prepare to upload the results. If accepted, the Semester I Coordinator will provide additional guidance via email.
