Limited Submission Funding Opportunities & Processes
Limited submissions are opportunities for which a sponsor or funding agency has placed a limitation on the number of proposals an eligible institution can submit. R&I announces such Limited Submission opportunities either through email to the different Colleges/Schools and/or including those in the Table below. R&I does not claim to include in the Limited Submission Opportunities Table every single announcement made by every funding agency. Many faculty members find such opportunities on their own through using any of the tools listed in the Funding Opportunities section. In any case, the potential PI needs to complete an online Proposal Notification Form and follow the guidelines that become accessible while checking Yes for the Limited Submission question in the PNF. R&I facilitates a review of internal pre-proposals submitted, when there is a need, and recommendation are made to the Vice President for Research & Innovation for the selection of the internal pre-proposals to be developed and submitted as full proposals to the sponsor.
LIMITED SUBMISSION PROCESS AND PROCEDURE
- R&I will announce limited submission opportunities and guidelines for internal submission of pre-proposals can be accessed by potential PIs upon completing the Proposal Notification Form.
- The form is used for both regular and limited submissions; however, if a limited submission is checked, the form will provide additional guidelines as noted above.
- Submission deadlines for various limited funding opportunities are given in a Table below.
- Pre-Proposals generally include the following:
- 2-page project description/research plan summary containing the key elements of the RFP. In the case of NSF pre-proposals, the research plan should include intellectual merit and broader impact;
- 2-page biographical sketch for PI;
- 1-page or less preliminary budget;
- 1-page or less budget justification.
REVIEW PROCEDURE (Limited Submission Pre-Proposals)
R&I will form an ad-hoc committee of appropriate faculty members to review pre-proposals. Reviewers will evaluate each pre-proposal on the basis of the proposed project’s suitability to the program announcement and the credentials of the PI and Co-PIs. Each review process will be tailored according to the specific solicitation. The most competitive pre-proposals will be selected and recommended to the Vice President for Research & Innovation to move to the full proposal development stage. The selected PIs will be notified by R&I and they will work with SRS Proposal Administrators for budgeting and proposal submission. The full proposal(s) will be submitted by SRS to the sponsor after obtaining regular routing approvals.
