PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (January 8, 2025) — Clarence Bunch, Ph.D., Project Manager III at Prairie View A&M University’s Cooperative Agricultural Research Center (CARC) Small Farm Institute, has secured a $55,000 grant from the University of Georgia Research Foundation, Inc., through the USDA-National Institute of Food and Agriculture. The grant will support sustainable agriculture research and education.
As part of the Small Farm Institute’s Outreach Education and Technical Assistance Program, the funding will support a multifaceted effort that provides training opportunities for County Extension agents from Texas A&M AgriLife and Prairie View A&M Cooperative Extension, FSA personnel, NRCS personnel, producers, and other agricultural professionals, incorporating concepts of sustainable agriculture. These initiatives will provide statewide training sessions, leadership seminars, farm tours, workshops, publications, and multimedia resources on sustainable practices.
The programs will benefit Texas communities by enhancing food and fiber production, environmental protection, organic practices, IPM, alternative methods, marketing, farmer collaboration, and team development. Success stories and awards will showcase the impact of these programs.
Agents will track progress and report increased knowledge of sustainable agriculture through statewide monthly reports, documenting outcomes, educational contacts, and demonstration projects.
