PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (February 3, 2025) — Shahin Shafiee, Ph.D., an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Prairie View A&M University, has been awarded a nearly $1.5 million grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to advance research on nanofluid transport phenomena using machine learning. The integrated research and educational plans involving both modelling and experimental efforts will impact the learning experience of students at PVAMU while enabling state-of-the-science nanofluids research.
This grant, part of NSF’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities Excellence in Research (HBCU-EiR) program, aims to strengthen research capacity at HBCUs by connecting scholars with NSF’s core programs and funding opportunities. Managed by the Office of Integrative Activities, HBCU-EiR fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, expands access to critical resources, and enhances innovation in STEM. Through rigorous merit review, the initiative supports groundbreaking research while positioning HBCU scholars for future NSF funding, driving scientific discovery and educational impact.
