PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (February 11, 2025) — A multidisciplinary team from Texas A&M University (TAMU) and Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) has secured a $2.9 million NIH collaboration grant to launch an Institutional Research and Academic Career Development program (IRACDA). The program at PVAMU is led by Gloria Regisford, Ph.D., TAMUS Regents Professor and Associate Dean for Research-Sciences and Mathematics in the Samuel Brailsford College of Arts and Sciences at PVAMU, to foster collaboration between the two institutions to enhance research and educational experiences of post-doctoral as well as student researchers.
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) recognizes the critical need to enhance the scientific workforce by increasing mutually beneficial participation between predominantly teaching institutions and research-intensive institutions in biomedical research and education. Studies show that teams with varied perspectives outperform homogeneous ones by harnessing creative solutions to complex problems. Scientists and trainees from varied backgrounds bring new ideas and fresh approaches, driving innovation, improving research outcomes, and addressing health disparities.
The National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) is committed to supporting individuals at all stages of their careers, ensuring that the future generation of researchers represents a broad range of talents, perspectives, and experiences. By fostering supportive learning environments and developing skilled researchers, educators, and mentors, NIGMS aims to cultivate a biomedical research workforce capable of tackling the most pressing health challenges of today.
